Benefits of Agrol®
The Agrol® family of polyols are made from natural, rapidly renewable oils. They can be used in many of the same or similar applications as petroleum polyols. Our flagship products, Agrol® and Agrol Diamond®, have been USDA Certified Biobased Products. Agrol® has 99% renewable content, and Agrol Diamond® has 86% renewable content as tested by ASTM D 6866, the industry standard for evaluating bio/renewable content.
Our newer products, which are made from soy or cashew nut shell liquid, also offer high bio-content. Also by varying our feedstock source, we are able to provide our customers a wide range of products that are more protected from feedstock-specific price fluctuations caused by regional issues or weather conditions.
This complete family of products can provide maximum flexibility in formulation development and allow for the addition of significant bio-content.
Consumer products that incorporate Agrol® have earned the stringent GREENGUARD Certification for Children & Schools for indoor air quality.
We also offer Agrol® Select and Agrol® 3.0 AO+. These are low VOC polyols with antioxidents added to the formulation. Flexible slabstock foam are ideal applications for these polyols.
According to an LCIA (Life Cycle Impact Analysis) conducted by Omni Tech International for the United Soybean Board, Agrol® soy-based polyols have a carbon benefit over petroleum polyols. Every bulk tanker of Agrol® used in place of petroleum-based polyols makes a significant reduction in the carbon footprint totaling +/- 270,000 lbs of carbon dioxide. Lower Global Warming Potential
The same LCIA also showed that the production of soy-based Agrol® has a lower global warming potential than petroleum-based polyols. The process emits less formaldehyde, hydrocarbons, methane and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere.
Fossil Fuel and Energy Usage
According to the LCIA, it takes less fossil fuel to produce a pound of soy-based Agrol® versus a pound of petroleum-based polyol. Also, the manufacturing process takes less energy (both primary energy and fuel energy) to produce a pound of Agrol® versus a pound of petroleum-based polyol.
